Together We Can Make A Difference

Water Wheelchairs

We are extremely pleased to announce that the Castlegar Selkirk Lions Club has donated a new water wheelchair to the Castlegar & District Aquatic Centre.

The Castlegar & District Recreation & Aquatic Centre is thrilled with the generosity of the Castlegar Lions Club! On behalf of the Castlegar Aquatic Centre and our patrons, we would like to thank the Castlegar Lions Club for their donation.

The new chair will ensure continued assistance to patrons who may have limited or impaired mobility, special handicaps, or suffer from a chronic health condition who may benefit from aquatic therapy or rehabilitation. CDRC Joanne Baker, Lions Club Secretary states: "We are very pleased that we could purchase this water wheelchair to improve the well-being of the local patrons. We like to support local needs and this has been made possible with the support we receive from the community at our fundraising events!"

    Update !

In cooperation with Columbia Power Corp a second wheelchair has been purchased by Castlegar-Selkirk Lions!

Miss Castlegar-Selkirk Lions 2013

President Luc and our 2013 Miss Castlegar candidate Stefany Rasmussen.

Miss Castlegar Pageant

Each year the Club sponsors a candidate in the Miss Castlegar pageant. Leeza Perehudoff, our candidate for 2012 was crowned in June. She stands with her grandpa, Lion Leo Plamondon (left) and Lion Bob Sorenson.

Every year people of all ages participate in the Move-A-Thon. 50% of money raised goes toward a Lions' project. The other 50% goes to local charities chosen by the participants. In 2013, the Lions' share went to Special Olympics BC.

School Lunch Program

We heard about kids in school with no lunches. We decided to pitch in and help the school lunch program to be a little special one day. Because of the cause, Canada Safeway nearly tripled our buying power and we were able to buy much more food than we intended. The staff and the kids at Castlegar Primary were thrilled - and so were we to make their day a little brighter.

Wooden Toys

The Chilliwack Lions Club donated 50 handmade wooden toys for our Club to give to needy families. We chose to donate them to Community Services for use in their programs. In return the Chilliwack Club would like our Club to find woodworkers in Castlegar area that will build more for donations at Christmas 2013.

Each year CBAL sponsors the "Book under every tree" promotion. New or gently used books are collected and included in each food hamper. In 2012 the Club collected more than 100 books for them. Photo includes Lions Bob Sorenson and Joanne Baker with CBAL Co-ordinator Alana Murdoch.
